About the PayPal Fee Calculator

PayPal's fee on a business payment is a percentage of the amount plus a fixed fee set by the currency you receive. In the US, a PayPal Checkout payment costs 3.49% + $0.49, a goods-and-services payment between PayPal accounts costs 2.99%, and card payments through PayPal's buttons cost 2.99% + $0.49. If the buyer is in another country, PayPal adds an international fee of 1.50% in the US, 1.29% from the EEA and 1.99% elsewhere for UK accounts, or 0.80% from the US for Canadian accounts.

Pick your account country, the way the buyer pays and where they are, and the calculator shows every line of the fee and what lands in your balance. Tick convert if the money will be changed into your own currency. PayPal's conversion spread is 3–4% above its base rate, which often costs more than the fee itself. The reverse calculation answers the most common question: to end up with $100 after a $0.49 fixed fee and 3.49%, you need to charge $104.13, not $103.98, because the fee is also charged on the extra.

Rates differ a lot between countries. A standard payment costs 2.9% + £0.30 in the UK, 2.99% + €0.39 in Germany and 2.90% + A$0.30 in Australia. Indian accounts only receive international payments, at 4.40% plus a fixed fee by currency. Philippine accounts pay 3.40% + ₱15 at home and 4.40% from abroad. The tables below list every rate the calculator uses, with the date we checked each PayPal page. PayPal changes fees every year or two, so we re-check them at least yearly.

Frequently asked questions

6 answers
How much does PayPal take from $100?
In the US, $3.98 for a PayPal Checkout payment (3.49% + $0.49), so you receive $96.02. A goods-and-services payment between PayPal accounts costs $2.99. A buyer abroad adds 1.50%, making the Checkout fee $5.48.
How do I calculate how much to charge to cover PayPal fees?
Divide what you want to receive plus the fixed fee by one minus the percentage: (100 + 0.49) ÷ (1 − 0.0349) = $104.13. The reverse field does this for any amount, including international and conversion fees.
Who pays the PayPal goods and services fee?
The seller (the person receiving the money). Friends-and-family payments funded from a PayPal balance or bank are free in the US, but they carry no purchase protection and mustn't be used for sales.
Does PayPal refund its fee when I refund a buyer?
PayPal keeps the fixed fee on refunds of commercial payments, and its rules on returning the percentage part vary by country and payment type, so check your country's fee page before you refund.
Why is my fee higher than the calculator shows?
Usually it's the international surcharge or a currency conversion, or your account is on a custom rate. Micropayment and charity rates need PayPal's approval, and some products, such as Pay Later, cost more.
Is anything I type sent to PayPal, Stripe or anyone else?
No. The fee schedules are built into the page and every calculation runs in your browser. Nothing you enter leaves your device.
