About Holi
Holi marks the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil. The night before is Holika Dahan, when bonfires are lit. On Holi itself — Rangwali Holi or Dhulandi — people throw coloured powder (gulal) and water at one another. It is a gazetted holiday in India and a public holiday in Nepal.
Because it follows the lunar calendar, Holi falls between late February and late March. In 2027, India's central government observes it on 23 March, with Holika Dahan on 22 March.
