About the YouTube Shorts Money Calculator

Shorts make money differently from long-form videos. Ads play between Shorts, so YouTube adds up all Shorts ad revenue each month, sets aside a share for music licensing, and splits the rest among creators by their share of eligible Shorts views. Creators keep 45% of their part. The result is a far lower RPM. In AIR Media-Tech's 2026 data, most niches' Shorts RPM fell between $0.07 and $0.20 per 1,000 views, or 3–14% of the same channel's long-form RPM. Music was the exception, thanks to Content ID.

Audience country makes a big difference. The same study measured Shorts RPMs of about $0.33 for US audiences, $0.19 for Australian and around $0.16–0.17 for UK, Canadian and German ones. A million US-heavy Shorts views earn roughly $300, while a mixed global audience earns closer to $100–250. Pick the audience closest to yours, or type your own Shorts RPM from YouTube Studio.

Eligibility is changing. YouTube announced in August 2026 that from 1 February 2027, sharing in Shorts revenue requires 10 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days. Channels below that stay in the Partner Program and keep earning on long-form. The calculator converts your views into a 90-day figure and shows whether you'd clear the bar. It also shows how many long-form views would earn the same as your Shorts.

Examples

1 million Shorts views a month, mixed global audience → about $100 (likely $70–$200)
1 million views from a mostly US audience → about $328
10 million Shorts views in 90 days meets the threshold YouTube announced for February 2027
