How it works

The tip calculator does two things: it works out a gratuity as a percentage of your bill, and it divides the grand total evenly among everyone at the table. Enter the pre-tip bill, pick a tip percentage with the slider or a quick-select button, and set how many people are sharing.

Tipping customs vary widely by country. In the United States, 15–20% of the pre-tax bill is typical for table service; in much of Europe a service charge may already be included and a small round-up is enough; and in many parts of Asia tipping is modest or optional. Choose the percentage that fits where you are rather than a single global rule.

The result shows the tip amount, the combined total, and the per-person share so nobody has to do mental arithmetic. All figures are computed live in your browser.

Examples

$48.50 bill, 18% tip, 2 people → tip $8.73, total $57.23, $28.62 each.
Round numbers fast: 20% of any bill is simply one-fifth of the total.
Solo diner → per-person equals the full total including tip.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I tip?
It depends on the country and service. In the US, 15–20% for table service is common; elsewhere a service charge may be included or tipping may be minimal. Choose the rate that matches local custom.
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Customarily on the pre-tax bill, though many people tip on the total for simplicity. Enter whichever base you prefer.
How does the split work?
The tool adds the tip to the bill and divides the total by the number of people, giving an equal share for each.
Are my amounts stored?
No. Everything is calculated locally and nothing is saved.
