How it works

Many schools set your semester grade as a weighted mix of your term (quarter) grades and a final or midterm exam. A very common split is 40% for each of the two terms and 20% for the final exam, though your school may weight them differently.

This calculator combines them: it multiplies each term grade and the final by its weight, adds them up, and divides by the total weight — so the weights don't have to add up to exactly 100. Enter your two term grades and your final, adjust the weights to match your syllabus, and you'll get the semester percentage and letter grade.

How is a semester grade calculated?
It's a weighted average of your term grades and final exam: multiply each by its weight, add them, and divide by the total weight. For terms of 90% and 85% and a final of 80% weighted 40/40/20, that's (90×40 + 85×40 + 80×20) ÷ 100 = 86%.
What's the usual weighting?
