PNG to GIF Converter
Convert PNGs to GIF with a real palette encoder: exact colours when the image has 256 or fewer, optional dithering for gradients, transparency kept — or turn several PNGs into an animated GIF.

About the PNG to GIF Converter
GIF is still the universal format for simple animations and for places that only accept GIF (older forums, some email clients, chat integrations). Converting PNG frames to an animated GIF is the most common reason; small logos and icons are the other.
The PNG is decoded by your browser, alpha included.
The GIF is written by our own GIF89a encoder: the image's exact colours are used when there are 256 or fewer, otherwise a median-cut palette is built (optionally with Floyd–Steinberg dithering). Transparent pixels get a reserved palette index declared in a Graphic Control Extension, pixels are LZW-compressed with variable-length codes, and several images can become an animation with a NETSCAPE2.0 loop block.

Things to know
- 256 colours per frame. Photos and gradients must be reduced to 256 colours; turn on dithering to hide banding.
- 1-bit transparency. GIF pixels are either fully transparent or opaque, so soft shadows and anti-aliased edges become hard.
