How it works

Training Prayer is about feeding bones for experience. Each bone gives a base amount of Prayer XP — 4.5 for regular bones, 72 for dragon bones, 150 for superior dragon bones — and your training method multiplies it: burying is ×1, a gilded altar with both burners lit is ×3.5, and the ectofuntus is ×4.

This calculator works out the XP gap between your current and target Prayer level using the official XP table, then divides by the XP per bone to tell you exactly how many bones to buy. Pick your bone and method to compare costs — dragon bones on a gilded altar is the classic fast route.

Everything runs in your browser.

Examples

1 → 70 Prayer on dragon bones (×3.5 gilded altar) → about 2,930 bones for ~738k XP.
Switch to superior dragon bones to roughly halve the bone count.

Frequently asked questions

How many bones do I need for a Prayer level?
It depends on the XP gap and the bone. The calculator subtracts your current level's XP from the target's and divides by the XP per bone (base × method multiplier) to give the exact count.
How much XP do dragon bones give?
72 XP each when buried, or 252 on a gilded altar with both burners lit (×3.5). Superior dragon bones give 150 / 525.
Is a gilded altar worth it?
Usually yes — the ×3.5 multiplier means far fewer bones for the same level, at the cost of some setup. The calculator lets you compare bury vs altar directly.
What's the fastest Prayer training?
Superior dragon bones on a gilded altar (or the chaos altar for a cheaper, riskier route) give the most XP per bone. Compare methods here to find your best cost.
Does this use the real XP table?
Yes — it uses the official OSRS experience formula, so the XP required to reach your target level is exact.
