How it works

A watermark marks a document's status or ownership — DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, a company name, or SAMPLE — across every page so its purpose is unmistakable even after printing or forwarding. This tool overlays your chosen text without altering the underlying content.

Load a PDF, type the watermark text, and adjust the font size, color, and opacity (a low opacity keeps the page readable underneath). Keep "Diagonal" on for the classic 45° stamp, or turn it off for horizontal text. The watermark is drawn on every page with pdf-lib's bold Helvetica.

Because it runs entirely in your browser, sensitive documents are never uploaded. Note that a text overlay is a visual marker, not encryption — it deters casual misuse rather than preventing determined removal.

Examples

DRAFT at 20% opacity, diagonal → a clear work-in-progress stamp.
CONFIDENTIAL in red across each page before sharing.
Your company name, low opacity → subtle branding on a proposal.

Frequently asked questions

Is the watermark on every page?
Yes — the text is stamped across all pages of the document.
Can I make it subtle?
Yes. Lower the opacity so the page content stays readable beneath the watermark.
Is this the same as protecting the PDF?
No. A watermark is a visual marker, not security. It discourages misuse but can be removed by determined editing.
Is my file uploaded?
No — the watermark is applied in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
