About the JPG to GIF Converter
JPG to GIF is mostly about animation: turning a sequence of photos into a looping GIF for chats, forums or presentations. GIF is also requested by some legacy systems that accept nothing else.
The JPEG is decoded by your browser, with the EXIF orientation applied so portrait photos aren't sideways.
The GIF is written by our own GIF89a encoder: the image's exact colours are used when there are 256 or fewer, otherwise a median-cut palette is built (optionally with Floyd–Steinberg dithering). Transparent pixels get a reserved palette index declared in a Graphic Control Extension, pixels are LZW-compressed with variable-length codes, and several images can become an animation with a NETSCAPE2.0 loop block.

Things to know
- GIFs of photos are big. A photo GIF is usually larger than the JPEG and has fewer colours — GIF was designed for graphics, not photographs.
- Same size frames. All frames are fitted to the first photo's dimensions; crop photos to the same aspect ratio first for best results.
