AVIF to BMP Converter
AVIF is efficient but young — convert AVIF files to BMP so any Windows program, printer driver or device can read them, with or without transparency.

About the AVIF to BMP Converter
AVIF (AV1 Image File Format, 2019) is now served by many websites and saved by phones, but support outside browsers is patchy — older Windows versions, image editors and almost all embedded devices can't decode it. BMP is the opposite: no compression, readable by anything.
The AVIF is decoded by your browser (Chrome 85+, Firefox 93+, Safari 16.4+), including its alpha channel.
The BMP is written by our own encoder: a BITMAPINFOHEADER file for 24-, 8- and 1-bit output (bottom-up rows padded to 4 bytes, as Windows expects) and a BITMAPV4HEADER with BI_BITFIELDS channel masks and an sRGB colour space for 32-bit with alpha. 8-bit files get an exact palette when the image has 256 colours or fewer, otherwise a median-cut palette with optional Floyd–Steinberg dithering; 1-bit uses a luminance threshold or dithering.

Things to know
- Your browser does the decoding. AVIF decodes in Chrome 85+, Firefox 93+ and Safari 16.4+. In an older browser the file can't be read.
- Huge size jump. AVIF can be 10–50× smaller than the same image as a 24-bit BMP. That's expected.
