About the ZIP File Creator

Drop files, or entire folders, onto the box. The creator keeps each file's path inside the folder, so the ZIP unpacks into the same structure. Each file is compressed with Deflate using your browser's built-in compression. If compressing doesn't make a file smaller, as with photos, videos and files that are already ZIPs, it's stored as-is instead, so the archive is never bigger than it needs to be.

The archive follows the standard ZIP format with UTF-8 file names, so it opens in Windows Explorer, macOS Finder, 7-Zip and Linux tools with accented and non-Latin names intact. Each file keeps its last-modified date, and every file carries a CRC-32 checksum so extractors can detect corruption. Untick Compress to just bundle files together, which is fastest for media.

Everything happens in memory on your device, so very large sets are limited by available RAM, and archives over 4 GB (which need ZIP64) aren't supported. For those, use your operating system's "Compress" option or 7-Zip.

Frequently asked questions

5 answers
Can I zip a whole folder?
Yes. Drag the folder onto the drop area, or use Add a folder. Subfolders and file paths are kept inside the ZIP.
Why is my ZIP barely smaller than the files?
Photos, videos, MP3s and Office files are already compressed, so Deflate can't shrink them much. Text, code, CSV and uncompressed images shrink a lot.
Can I add a password?
Not yet. Browsers have no built-in support for ZIP encryption, and the old ZIP password scheme is weak anyway. For sensitive files, use 7-Zip with AES-256.
Is there a size limit?
Archives must stay under 4 GB, because ZIP64 isn't supported here, and everything is held in memory on your device while it's built.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device. The page doesn't send your files anywhere, and closing the tab discards them.
