About the Voice Recorder

Press Record and your browser asks for permission to use the microphone. The recorder uses the browser's built-in MediaRecorder, which saves compact Opus audio in WebM (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) or AAC in an M4A container (Safari), at about 1 MB per minute for speech. A live waveform shows your level, so you can tell whether you're too quiet or clipping. You can pause and resume within one take, and each take is kept in the list until you close the page.

Every take has a player and two downloads: the original compressed file, and an uncompressed WAV converted in your browser for editors and transcription tools that prefer it. If you have several microphones, such as a headset and a USB mic, pick one from the list after the first recording. Noise suppression and echo cancellation help for voice notes and calls. Turn them off for music, where they can make instruments sound strange.

Nothing is uploaded or stored on a server: the audio exists only in this tab's memory until you download it. Closing or reloading the page discards takes you haven't saved, and the page warns you if a recording is still running.

Frequently asked questions

5 answers
Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. It's recorded by your browser and kept in the page's memory until you download it. Nothing is sent to a server.
What format are recordings saved in?
Chrome, Edge and Firefox save Opus audio in a .webm file; Safari saves AAC in .m4a. Every take can also be downloaded as an uncompressed .wav.
Why can't the page access my microphone?
Allow microphone access in the browser's address bar or site settings, check no other app is using the mic exclusively, and on macOS make sure the browser has microphone permission in System Settings → Privacy.
Is there a time limit?
No fixed limit. Long recordings use memory, at roughly 1 MB per minute compressed and 10 MB per minute as WAV, so download long takes as you go.
Can I record system audio?
No, only microphone input. Recording audio from other apps or tabs needs screen-capture permissions this tool doesn't use.
