About the TIFF to JPG Converter
TIFFs are lossless and often enormous — a scanned A4 page at 300 DPI can be 25 MB, and camera TIFFs larger still. JPEG at 80–90% quality is visually close for photos at a small fraction of the size, which is what email, web forms and messaging apps want.
Your TIFF is read by our own decoder (browsers other than Safari can't open TIFF): uncompressed, LZW (with predictor), Deflate/ZIP, PackBits, JPEG-in-TIFF and CCITT Group 3/Group 4 fax compression; strips or tiles; 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32-bit samples; grayscale, RGB, palette and CMYK; planar or interleaved; orientation tags honoured; and every page of multi-page files.
The JPG is written by your browser's JPEG encoder at the quality you choose; transparent areas are composited onto the fill colour first, since JPEG has no alpha channel.

Things to know
- JPG can't be transparent. Transparent areas in a TIFF are filled with the background colour.
- Fax TIFFs are black and white. CCITT Group 3/4 pages are 1-bit; as JPEG they'll be grayscale and usually larger than PNG. PNG is the better target for fax pages.
