How it works
This reader uses the speech engine already built into your browser and operating system to turn written text into spoken audio. There is no account, no upload and no download — you paste text, choose how it should sound and press Play.
The Voice menu lists every voice your system provides, which varies by browser and platform; some offer many languages and accents. The Rate slider controls how fast the words are spoken and Pitch raises or lowers the tone. Use Play, Pause and Stop to control playback at any point.
Because the audio is generated locally by your device, your text is never sent to a server. It is handy for proofreading by ear, resting your eyes, or learning pronunciation.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my voice list short or empty?
Available voices come from your browser and operating system. Some load a moment after the page opens, and a few platforms ship with only one. The menu refreshes automatically when new voices appear.
Can I download the audio as a file?
No. The browser's speech engine plays audio live rather than producing a file, so there is nothing to save. It is meant for listening in the moment.
Does it work offline?
The built-in voices generally work without a connection, though some higher-quality voices on certain systems may need to be online.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Speech is generated on your own device by the browser, so the text you paste is never uploaded.
Nothing plays when I press Play — why?
Make sure there is text in the box and your device volume is up. Some browsers also require a click before they will play audio, which pressing Play satisfies.
