How it works
Gematria is the practice of assigning a numeric value to letters, so that a word or name has a number — the sum of its letters. It began with the Hebrew alphabet, where each letter already doubles as a number, and has been adapted to the English alphabet through several different ciphers (numbering systems).
This calculator shows the main English ciphers at once: Ordinal (A=1 … Z=26), Full Reduction (the Pythagorean system, reduced to 1–9), Reverse Ordinal (A=26 … Z=1), Reverse Reduction, English/Sumerian (Ordinal × 6), and Jewish Gematria (a table that mirrors the Hebrew values).
