About the BMP to WebP Converter
BMP is uncompressed and not suitable for web pages, while WebP is designed for them. Converting a BMP screenshot or scan to WebP can cut its size by 95% or more.
The BMP is decoded by your browser, which reads 1- to 32-bit bitmaps.
The WebP is written by your browser's WebP encoder: lossy at the quality you choose, or effectively lossless at 100. Safari before version 17 can't encode WebP and falls back to PNG — the result card tells you if that happens.

Things to know
- 32-bit BMP alpha. If the BMP has an alpha channel, it's kept in the WebP.
- WebP size limit. WebP is limited to 16,383 px per side; very large BMPs must be scaled down.
